Limitation or disadvantages of GIS

LIMITATIONS OR DISADVANTAGES OF GIS:-

1. It is difficult to integrate with traditional maps.

2. Generalization of the data can lose important information.

3. GIS tools are very expensive.

4. Shows the less accuracy when used in broad scale.

5. Complex data structure.

6. The GIS analysis method is complex.

7. GIS data requires very large storage space.

8. GIS technology stores large data volume.

9. User difficulty.

10. Time consuming process.

11. Data limitations.

Complex technology: This is a common problem for all new GIS users, requiring skills and knowledge to operate the GIS system. In this situation new users face some real difficulties. The "user-friendly" interfaces in GIS software have slowed down and some systems still rely on knowledge of a complex command language.

Expensive: GIS systems built with hardware and software, both are very expensive in the market. In addition to hardware and software, there is a need to have a fully trained human staff that is expensive to train and acquire. The cost of data inputs will inevitably be higher when purchasing existing digital data, continuing digitization, or setting up and maintaining data collection systems.

Complex data structure: The data collected and stored in GIS systems is usually complex form. Due to complexity of the data structure in GIS systems, it may be impossible to analyze some spatial data leading to incomplete data. There is still no easy way to find out if databases exist properly or what accessibility rules are.

Data limitations: This is a problem that GIS users in both developed and developing countries have been facing for decades. Finding money to collect new data and convert paper maps and data to digital format still continues as a problem. In many cases there is the presence of digital data but there are issues related to privacy, national security, etc.

Time consuming: GIS is a time consuming tools. The process of collecting, storing and analyzing data using GIS systems is lengthy. Due to the enormity of the data available, it can take a long time to get complete information about a particular set of data.
From data collection to data analysis and decision making is a very long process using GIS system.
